Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

(photo from here)

Did you know that July 4 is the day the wording for the Declaration was approved but that it wasn't signed until August?? There are so many important dates in our history that tie to the Revolution, maybe they thought it would be best to keep it simple.

Enjoy your holiday and the beautiful weather! Take the time to celebrate John Adams (my favorite), Thomas Jefferson (Joshua's favorite) and George Washington (everyone's favorite)! Eat watermelon!

P.S. When I say July I like to say it like "JEW lie" with the emphasis hard on the first syllable. Because I think it's funny.

P.P.S. Do you think it is significant that they believed only the pursuit of happiness was a right, not happiness itself? Or do you think that was a poetic way of describing the freedom of America?

  1. I think they knew persons interpretations of what happiness is would differ significantly so they knew that each individual ascertaining their own happiness may not be acheviable but they knew that each deserved the freedom to try to gain it...I think they belived in and knew the difference between happiness & contentment.
