The house.

Ignoring that the photos are crooked I just want to say I finally got mats for those photos! And I sewed a pillow for the couch. It needs a little more stuffing but we're moving forward. Even though things aren't perfect it's definitely a home here. People are in and out and Roo is a terror and the sweetest all at once and there's baking and reading (Unbroken and Yes Please right now) and Christmas music.

And now the tree is up (and there was snow but you can't really see it)! Roo likes to lie by the heater and watch the lights. It's the best.

Guests.

I honestly think the thing I'm most excited about in owning a home is having guests stay the night. Also being able to paint every single wall blinding white. But really, once I get a house I might demand that my little brother spend the night just so I can bake cookies and put out an extra blanket for him.

I housesat for some friends this winter and my favorite thing about the whole weekend was the gorgeous carafe by my bed. I'm not a middle-of-the-night drinker but I had a few sips before bed just to use it! And with a built in glass, genius. Here is a guide to being the perfect hostess (I think fresh flowers is such a simple but brilliant idea).

LOFT BEDS,

I'm obsessed (I even made us stay in a studio with a loft in London). We have vaulted ceilings everywhere in my house and I dream of a loft bed in white. Of course in white. I crave carving out my own space. My heart is done living in a bedroom.

(I have no idea where this is from.. I found it in a house folder from who knows how long ago!)

Grey.

Oooh I love grey.

Grey dresses, grey quilts, grey couches (especially grey couches). I could go on and on but normal people don't typically want to look at all 100 grey things I've bookmarked.

Breakfast nooks.

My friend has been putting together her dreams about a home for a while now and her kitchen photos reminded me of an old obsession.

My only requirement for a kitchen is this: a breakfast nook. Really what this entails is a bench at the table and a corner it can be tucked into. I spend 0% of my time in the kitchen UNLESS it's sitting with people who are cooking. Or getting ice cream from the fridge. So for a kitchen to be useful to me it has to have a place to read a book or drink some chocolate milk and not be in the cooks way. Besides, if we are going to have a small house (which I desperately want) a nook might be the only option!!

Ikea.

Yesterday Joshua and I went to Seattle to see his stepsisters and drop his parents off and on the way home we stopped by Ikea, but we couldn't find it! It was dark and I haven't been since I was a kid. When we got home we found out it was only a block from where we were!!! Dangit!

Anyway, sometimes I plan out my whole apartment and furnish it with Ikea.

It's a cozy studio on the water.

This home would have hardwood floors so I would be "forced" to buy rugs. This is not a terrible imposition because I love them.

Clean lines sofa and only a loveseat (something about giant couches in a tiny area... not this houses thing). Of course my pheasant chair will be moving to this home breaking up the modernness but not unpleasantly. And this weird storage cart (I don't even like turquoise but I cannot give this up)! And a giant bookcase for all my books. Duh. I'm a book hoarder it's terrible! I need an intervention...
